This is a functional exercise for improving arm and hand coordination.
You will need a variety of objects to practice with, such as a cup, bottle or mobile phone. If you wish, you can also use wrist weights. Use something like a bottle or tube of toothpaste to practice an unscrewing motion. This exercise should be done in your wheelchair. Sit at a table or use the wheelchair tray. Make sure you’re seated in a stable position. Try to move the cup in different directions. Extend your arm forwards and sideways as far as you can. You can use weighted wrist cuffs if you want to increase the resistance. If you are unable to lift your whole arm, slide your arm across the table in as fluid a motion as possible. Vary the unscrewing exercise by using different types of containers.
