Exercise 10: Seated balance and arm strength

This is a great exercise for improving seated balance and arm strength. It is suitable for anyone who can sit without support. You will need something soft but stable to sit on and some objects that you can grasp easily. Make sure you’re seated in a stable position on a mat or bed or in a wheelchair. Have someone hold out objects around you for you to grab. They should encourage you to lean forwards and sideways as far as you can. The further out you lean, the more difficult it will be to maintain your balance. Vary the objects you use, from lighter (phone, balloon, empty bottle) to heavier objects (ball, cup, full bottle). You can also have your helper hold the objects at different heights.
