Roll here, roll there
This is a simple exercise to stimulate the child to find a way of turning from her/his back onto her/his stomach and then back again. The exercise is aimed at young children aged between 3 months and 1 year, but can also be used for older individuals if the movements need to be trained. For this exercise, you need to have a nice, safe surface with enough space for the child to turn.
Description
Place the child in position on the floor. If another surface is used, keep in mind that if the surface is too soft, this makes it difficult for the child to turn. Place fun toys at an appropriate distance that stimulate the child to want to turn and try to reach the objects. The person training the child must be careful to make the turns slowly and wait for the child’s own movements. When the child eventually begins to learn the turn, you can gradually reduce the help with the leg movement. Remember that it is important to let the child reach the toy and so she/he feels that the effort was worth it!
