Exercise 17: 7 years - upwards: Special shoulder gym

Special shoulder gym

Strength training and specific focus on movements in the shoulders. The exercise is aimed at children from 7 years of age and upwards, but can also be used by younger individuals where shoulder movements need to be trained. For this exercise, you need a stable sitting surface on a mat, chair or in a wheelchair plus toys.

Description

Let the child sit stably and comfortably with a straight back. Entice the child with the toy almost within reach of the child’s hand to guide her/him to make a straight movement. In this exercise, we focus as much as possible on outward and upward movements, as well as straight forward and upward movements. Let the child take hold of the toy, when you see that the arms begin to drop out of the desired direction of movement. For stronger children, weight cuffs or dumbbells can be used for these movements. Remember that the child should feel that she/he is succeeding, do not challenge her/him too much. This is a difficult exercise.
