Up and Stand
By playfully enticing the child to stand up, the extensor muscles in the knees and hips are trained. The exercise is aimed at children between 1 and a half and 3 years of age, but can also be used by older individuals if the movement needs to be trained. For this exercise, a moderately high stool is needed.
Description
Let the child sit on a moderately high stool. Encourage the child to stand up. If necessary, help the child by holding her/his hands and pulling her/him gently forwards and upwards. If the child sits on a higher stool, the exercise is easier; the lower down the child, the greater the degree of difficulty. The exercise can be done in connection with all movements. Remember to choose a height that the child can handle without having to use the full strength of her/his arms. Increase the degree of difficulty carefully so that motivation and the feeling of success is maintained.
