Stand-steady
This exercise challenges the child’s ability to stand steadily by having to stand on different surfaces. The exercise is aimed at children from about 3 up to 7 years of age, but can also be used by both younger and older individuals where balance when standing needs to be trained. For the exercise, varying surfaces are needed such as a hard floor, a soft mat, a mattress or a lawn as well as a ball to hit or a friend to push against.
Description
Let the child stand steadily on a moderately challenging surface. Softer surfaces increase the degree of difficulty. The child challenges her/his balance even more by using her/his arms. Preferably use something to hit such as a boxing ball or a person who the child can push against with the aim of challenging the balance. Remember to remain close for safety. For the weaker child, shorter periods are enough, while the stronger child needs a greater challenge, in terms of surface and activity with the arms and upper body.
